EXPERIMENTAL MIXED MEDIA PAINTING

Transform your illustration work with experimental mixed-media techniques! Throughout the mini course, many exciting in-depth demonstrations will be shown, providing an extensive array of visually-stimulating possibilities for artists to explore. Both two-dimensional and three-dimensional experimental mixed-media techniques will be covered, including alternative approaches to drawing, transparent and opaque painting techniques in acrylic media, utilizing alternative and custom tools to produce signature mark-making, employing various surface treatments to create tactile environments, using collage to create multidimensional illustrations and so much more. Discussions on artistic growth and development, nurturing the creative spirit and developing personal content will also be included as a way to assist students on their own creative path.

Visual Arts Passage
WORKING IN RELIEF ON THE PAINTED SURFACE!
Instructor: Lisa L. Cyr
This exciting online workshop explores texture-building and bas-relief techniques onto the painted surface. Students will have private access to a highly-visual class blog, containing lectures and step-by-step demonstrations with high-definition videos through online streaming. Throughout the workshop, the artist demonstrates working with various gel and fluid mediums as well as pastes, grounds and crackle texture to create a unique topography in layers. Lushly painted passages and rich transitions using acrylic paint in various viscosities are employed onto the painting surface in creative combinations. To further build the relief, the sculptural application of various cloth, trim and other materials as well as matter painting with sand are employed, creating a highly-dimensional painting environment. Incorporating assemblage accents and unique sculptural details using molds onto the surfaces of a unique construct are also demonstrated. Both additive and subtractive processes are shown, providing an extensive array of visually-stimulating possibilities for artists to explore!
Live Group Chats with the artist will be conducted for Q+A and to discuss work that has been created in relief, as a result of the insights and techniques gained from the class!

EXPRESSIVE PAINTING IN WATERMEDIA

Transform your figurative work with expressive painting techniques! Throughout the workshop, lushly painted passages and rich transitions using waterbased media, from acrylic paint in various viscosities, interactive acrylic and acrylic-ink to various polymer gels and pastes, will be employed onto the painting surface in creative combinations. Fluid techniques such as staining, pouring, dripping, marbling, dissolving and resist treatments as well as creative manipulation of heavily-applied paint and mediums with a painting knife, comb and other non-traditional tools will be employed in this exciting workshop. Students will have private access to a highly-visual class blog, containing lectures and step-by-step demonstrations with high-definition videos through online streaming.

IMAGINATIVE REALISM: Using Exploratory Techniques to Create Imaginative Works
This exciting online class explores the development of imaginative, fantasy-inspired works using a content-driven, mixed-media, multidisciplinary mindset. From fantastical dreamscapes and realms to supernatural beings, winged guardians and underworld deities, the class shows how to create visually-compelling, mixed-media works that employ symbolism, metaphor and allegory to create a more imaginative reality. Both two-dimensional and three-dimensional mixed-media techniques are explored in creative combinations.
In addition, the class covers conceptual ideation, alternative approaches to value and color studies, costuming with custom embellishments, building props and using photo reference in unique ways to create other worlds with a distinctive mood and theatrical presence. Developing extraordinary color palettes, patterns and textures derived from the natural world will also be explored, reveling mystical insights and hidden messages. Throughout the class, visual storytelling, worldbuilding and cultural mythology are cleverly intertwined with the use of exploratory processes and approaches in artmaking to elevate the creative consciousness. This online class is for intermediate and advanced artists who are interested in using imaginative realism to add that magical, transforming element to their work.

WITHIN THE LAYERS: Collage Techniques for the Mixed Media Artist

In this video-driven online workshop, learn how to employ mixed-media collage techniques to enhance the painted surface. From gluing, sealing, tearing, scoring, punching, die-cutting and custom inlays to wrinkling, creasing, burning, peeling-back, stitching, weaving, embossing and debossing handmade, custom treated and machine-made papers, foils and ephemera, an exciting array of innovative collage techniques will be explored. Students will have private access to high-definition videos through online streaming. Live Group Chats will be conducted every other Saturday to discuss each participant's work that has been created using mixed-media collage techniques. Students will have private access to a highly-visual class blog, containing lectures and step-by-step demonstrations with high-definition videos through online streaming.

EXPRESSIVE MIXED-MEDIA DRAWING TECHNIQUES

This workshop will explore alternative, signature mark-making techniques and approaches using altered, repurposed and custom tools in graphite and charcoal. Topics will include turning graphite powder into acrylic paint and applying it to the surface in intriguing ways, employing handmade eraser templates, custom printmaking plates and stencils to create unique textures, using water-soluble graphite to create unexpected results, applying resists and dissolves to activate the drawing surface, uilizing collage techniques and working on a textured ground. Both additive and subtractive processes will be investigated, providing an extensive array of visually-stimulating possibilities for artists to explore.

JUST IMAGINE: Creative Storytelling in Sketchbooks + Journals

This exciting online workshop will focus on the development of personal content through the exploration of visual storytelling and creative writing, establishing a portal to the world within. Journalistic writing as well as drawing and painting inside handmade and custom-altered books with engaging layouts and formats, unique bindings, clever folds, intriguing die-cuts and visually stimulating add-ons will be shown and demonstrated. In addition, the online workshop will cover creative writing techniques, sequential storytelling, artistic book design and layout, experimental typography and unconventional approaches to drawing and painting. Both two-dimensional and three-dimensional mixed-media techniques will be explored in interesting combinations to enhance creative exploration, providing an interesting array of possibilities for artists and creative writers.
